IFC Teams up with Eneris Group to Advance Circular Economy, Waste Management Solutions in Poland
- Up to €80 million loan to Eneris Group, a leading private waste management company in Poland.
- Supports development of advanced waste treatment facilities and promotes circular economy practices.
Warsaw, Poland, July 23, 2025—IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is investing up to €80 million alongside Eneris Alpha S.A., the financial holding company of Eneris Group, a Polish leader in circular economy and waste management solutions, to drive innovation in waste management and foster the transition to a circular economy in Poland. The financing will enable the development of advanced waste treatment facilities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while supporting the company’s ambitious growth plans.
Eneris Group, Poland’s fourth-largest private waste management company, serves 1.4 million residents across 100 municipalities with comprehensive waste management services. As part of its long-term engagement with Eneris, IFC has been a partner to the company to develop a sustainability strategy and build environmental and social capacity through its Circularity Plus advisory platform.
“We are thankful to IFC for recognizing the growth and position that Eneris has achieved over the past decade in Poland,” said Artur Dela, Founder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Eneris. “This partnership comes at a special moment for us — exactly as we mark 10 years of building Eneris’ operational presence and competences in Poland. Over this decade, we’ve grown from a local operator to a trusted national platform for circular economy solutions. Being recognized and strengthened today by a global institution like IFC is a powerful confirmation of what a Polish company can achieve — and a strong impulse for our next chapter of sustainable growth.”
In recent years, Poland has made steady progress in expanding its waste management capacity and integrating sustainable waste management practices. However, despite this progress, Poland continues to face challenges in meeting target set by the European Union. Approximately 38 percent of municipal solid waste is still landfilled, exceeding the country’s 2025 target of 30 percent and 2035 target of 10 percent. The national recycling rate, at 41 percent in 2022, also falls short of EU benchmarks. Accelerating private investment in infrastructure remains key for Poland to bridge this gap while promoting technology innovation.
“This investment marks a key milestone in IFC’s broader circular economy strategy in Europe, where we’re committed to advancing the use of sustainable resources,” said Ary Naïm, World Bank Group Country Manager for Poland. “By mobilizing private capital and expertise across the waste value chain—from collection and sorting to recycling and energy generation—IFC is helping scale low-carbon solutions and foster innovation in the region’s green transition.”
IFC has backed private sector development in Poland for over 30 years, with a committed exposure of over $1 billion as of June 2025.
